Mahadev Betting App: Saurabh Chandrakar Extradited From Oman, Ravi Uppal Arrested in UAE
· Diwa Bonus News Desk

One of India’s longest-running betting app investigations moved sharply in early November 2026. Saurabh Chandrakar, described by investigators as the alleged kingpin of the Mahadev online betting app, was brought back to India from Oman. On Wednesday, 4 November, a special CBI court in Raipur sent him to the Central Bureau of Investigation’s custody for eight days. The same week, officials said his co-promoter Ravi Uppal had been arrested in the UAE.
What happened, step by step
- 8 October: the Muscat Court of Appeal held that the legal requirements for Chandrakar’s extradition to India were met and rejected a competing request from the UAE, The Economic Times reported.
- 1 November: Chandrakar was returned from Oman and, according to the CBI, arrested at 7.35 pm.
- 2 November: a Delhi court granted the CBI a two-day transit remand and directed the agency to produce him before the special judge in Raipur.
- 3 November: he was flown to Raipur, The Hindu reported.
- 4 November: the special court granted eight days of custody, until 12 November, and allowed questioning in Delhi. The CBI had asked for 10 days.
Officials told PTI that Ravi Uppal, 46, was arrested in Dubai on the basis of an Interpol Red Notice, and that the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are working to extradite him. Both men come from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district.
What investigators allege
The CBI describes the Mahadev Online Book as one of the largest illegal online betting syndicates in the country, run from outside India. It allegedly offered betting on cricket, football, card games and other events through a network of franchised “panels” and “branches” across India, which enrolled users and collected their stakes. The agency says the money was routed through mule bank accounts and sent abroad through hawala channels. The Hindu describes it as a Rs 6,000-crore scam.
The defence has argued that, under extradition law, Chandrakar can only be pursued in the money laundering case for which he was extradited. The Delhi court said such objections are for the Raipur trial court to decide. None of the allegations has yet been proved in court.
Why it matters for Diwa and Yono app players
The “panel” and “branch” model described in this case looks a lot like what many players see on messaging apps today: a local agent who creates an ID, takes your deposit through UPI and promises to pay out winnings. Investigators say that model fed a vast offshore operation. When the people at the top are arrested and accounts are frozen, players who sent money through agents usually have no protected way to get it back.
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 prohibits online money games in India, so an agent offering you a betting ID is not offering a lawful service.
Practical safety takeaway
- Check the law using an official government source before playing any game for money.
- Be 18+ and never let a child use your UPI app for games.
- Avoid agents and “IDs” sold over WhatsApp or Telegram. Paying a stranger’s account is the riskiest way to play.
- Protect your OTP and UPI PIN. No real game needs them.
- Report fraud on 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in, and tell your bank quickly.
We will update this story as the custody period ends and if Uppal’s extradition moves forward.
